Alan Duane Young, passed on December 7, 2020 at the age of 69. He was born to Owen "Duane" and Veva (Tompkins) Young in Topeka, Kansas on March 26, 1951. Alan was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Loretta Latta. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Young; daughters, Sherry (Beau) Stavig, Tina (Todd) Hallacy; grandchildren, Wyatt, Dalten, Haley, Savannah, Naomi, Makayla, Alanna, Jayla and brothers, Mark (Terry) Young and Mick (Michelle) Young. Alan married his high school sweetheart in 1972.They became owners of Melvern Grain, Inc. that very same year. They lived in Melvern, Ks and raised 2 daughters there until they sold the business in 1979. Alan remained in the agriculture field the rest of his life. In 1980 he joined the merchandising team of C-G-F Grain Company, Inc. That summer he moved his family to Topeka. In 1983 when C-G-F Grain was sold to Cargill, Inc. Alan joined the Cargill team. After serving 37 years with Cargill/ Ardent Mills he retired. He was also a 44 year member of the Kansas Grain and Feed Association and served on the KGFA Scholarship committee. Alan loved charity work. He served on the Cargill Cares Committee, Habitat For Humanity, and Mennonite Housing. In 2006 Alan was part of a Mennonite team that built 7 single family homes in a record breaking 6 months. He clocked 906 hours and received a letter of recognition from President George W. Bush. This was the one thing he was most proud of. Since their move to Wichita in 1992 Alan and Linda have helped many young people get through growing pains. They have all traveled from as far away as Maryland and Texas to thank him for being there for them when no one else was. The past 3 years Alan dedicated every day light hour working on the pond in the backyard. It was completed by Kansas Dirt and Landscape on Dec. 1st. The crew carefully carried him downstairs to show him the finished water feature which was given his seal of approval.

A memorial service will be held on May 22, 2021 at the Melvern UMC, 620 NW Emporia, Melvern, Ks. 66510 beginning at 2:00pm. Inurnment to follow at Melvern Cemetery, Melvern, Kansas.
